Transportation in Jamaica

Getting to Jamaica

Two international airports serve Jamaica. Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay is used by most vacationers; if you are traveling to Montego Bay, Negril, the South Coast, Ocho Rios or Runaway Bay, choose this airport. Some Port Antonio arrivals also opt for this airport.

Norman Manley International Airport is located in Kingston. Choose this airport if you are staying in Kingston, the Blue Mountains, or Port Antonio.

Getting to Your Resort

Once you arrive in Jamaica and clear customs and immigration, you'll be ready to hit the arrival hall and be on your way to your resort. But how to get there?

Many all-inclusives include transportation in the package; you will receive information from the resort about your transfer.

If you don't have a transfer pre-arranged, stop by the Jamaica Tours desk in the airport for information on transfers.

Getting Around Jamaica

Taxis

Taxis are the most popular mode of transportation for visitors in Jamaica. See our taxi page for information on costs, calling and taxi and more. We recommend taxis rather than car rental.

Renting a Car

Jamaica has one of the world's highest rates of auto fatalities. Still want to rent a car? If you really want to rent a car, we suggest taking a taxi the first few days just to get the feel of the roads and, unless you're British, to get accustomed to being on the left side of the road.

InterIsland Flights

Whether you arrive in Kingston or Montego Bay, you'll find interisland flights that connect these cities to Ocho Rios, Negril, Port Antonio and other stops; most flights are on a charter basis.
