Billy's Place
Billy's Place
A2, 30 minutes east of Whitehouse
There are no frills about Billy's Place; it's a simple Jamaican side of
the road eatery that serves simply tasty Jamaican food. Most people take
it to go; don't miss the fiery peppered shrimp.
Bloomfield Great House
Mandeville
This beautifully restored greathouse is Mandeville's finest restaurant.
Once Bill Laurie's Steakhouse, this location has reopened and refurbished.
Guests can dine outside on an open air verandah for a spectacular view
of the Mandeville lights at night or inside in the antiques-filled main
dining room. A private dining room for quiet evenings alone or for families
is also available. And don't miss the bar, an all-wood affair reminiscent
of a century old pub. Australian and Chilean wines are served in the bar
which is open daily and affords a great view of the city. We recommend
this restaurant for its romantic atmosphere, great view, and innovative
cuisine.
Lunch and dinner offerings include an international-Caribbean
cuisine. Start with an appetizer of Grilled Curried Shrimp with pineapple-cucumber
salsa, Shrimp Ravioli with smoked marlin cream sauce, or Chicken Satay
with peanut sauce. Entrees include filet mignon with roasted garlic guava
sauce, Beef Wellington, Seafood Kebob, Shrimp Creole, Grilled Pork Chops
stuffed with tropical fruits and served with plum sauce, and Blackened
Snapper Filet on a bed of Caribbean salsa. Dinner service, with candlelit
tables, is especially elegant and a good choice for a romantic dinner
out. On Sundays, a popular Sunday brunch is served for J$450 including
breakfast drinks (mimosa, Bloody Mary, coffee), omelets, French toast,
ackee and saltfish, scallop fritters, grilled chicken salad, fish and
chips, and more.
Jack Sprat
Jake's Resort, Treasure Beach
Jack Sprat is the second restaurant at funky Jake's, a beachside restaurant
that offers everything from pizza to jerk crab.
Jake's
Treasure Beach
Guests at Jake's enjoy Jamaican cuisine, served in the open-air restaurant.
Local dishes such as ackee and saltfish, conch salad, pumpkin soup, and
steamed fresh fish make up the menu.
Little
Ochie
Alligator Pond
This restaurant is a favorite with Jamaicans and it's easy to see why;
it specializes in fresh from the sea seafood (the fishermen literally
bring in their catch just down the beach.) Dining is primarily outdoors;
some tables are old boats built up on stilts (see photo, right).
The Manchester Arms Pub and Restaurant
Mandeville Hotel, Mandeville
Like a traditional English pub, the dark, cool place is an excellent place
to meet other travelers and enjoy a cool beer. When you're ready for a
meal, dine on Jamaican specialties.
Pelican Bar
near Treasure Beach
You don't just go to the Pelican Bar for the food---although the fresh
seafood is tasty--but for the experience. This simple bar, made of driftwood
and looking like it's going to set adrift at any minute, is located out
in the sea on a sandbar. You can get your Treasure Beach hotel to arrange
for you a boat ride out to the bar.
