JamaicaTripper Review: The Sandals chain was started in 1981 by Gordon "Butch" Stewart with Sandals Montego Bay, a resort located next to the city's Donald Sangster International Airport. This location has a potential negative, but Sandals turned the airport traffic to its advantage with its romantically minded guests: every time an airplane flies overhead, guests were instructed to kiss their partner. The kissing must have worked; Sandals Montego Bay has the highest return guest rate within the chain. This resort makes a great choice if you've got limited time in Jamaica.

We especially liked the Almond block of rooms; our room opened out onto the beach and included an in-room stocked bar. The highest class of luxury at the resort are the newly opened 59 rooms and suites in the Bay Roc Villa Suites. These rooms offer butler service and 24-hour room service in some room categories.

Clientele: Like other Sandals resorts, Sandals Montego Bay is for couples only. Sandals no longer limits this to male-female couples.

Good Choice If:

you've got a short vacation and you want to make the most of your time in Jamaica. This is the closest resort to the airport so you'll spend an absolute minimum time transfering to the airport.
you'd like a large selection of restaurants on property (plus the option of hopping the shuttle to dine or play at Sandals Royal Caribbean or Sandals Inn)
you'd like to be located on a huge beach

Bad Choice If:

you want literal peace and quiet...remember, airplanes will be flying overhead during much of the day and early evening
