Ocho Rios: Getting There

For most travelers, getting to Ocho Rios means flying into Montego Bay then taking a shuttle to Ocho Rios, a distance of about two hours. (With the completion of the North Coast Highway improvement project, it's a little less than two hours but drivers always stop along the way so plan for the journey to take two hours before you reach the first hotel stop.)

Many Ocho Rios all inclusives including Beaches, Couples, and Sandals include the cost of your transfer in your all-inclusive package; all you have to do is go to the hospitality room for your resort after you claim your luggage and they'll take care of the rest. (The transfer is free but the bus drivers are independent so a tip is appropriate.)

If your hotel doesn't arrange for a transfer, plan to spend about $60 per person round trip for a transfer. Jamaica Tours has a desk in the airport and can make the arrangements.

Flying from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios: The fastest (and most expensive) way to get from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios is by interisland flight. The small plane airport is directly east of Sangster International Airport; near Ocho Rios, you'll fly into Boscobel Aerodrome, located east of town. The problem is that flights are on a charter basis. Contact TimAir or International Airlink for prices and details; their desks are in the arrivals hall at Sangster.

Arriving from Kingston: If you fly into Kingston, expect your transfer to Ocho Rios to be costlier. No hotels in Ocho Rios offer complimentary pickup in Kingston. A taxi will charge you about $280 round trip for the drive. You can also opt for a flight from Kingston's Tinson Pen Aerodrome to Boscobel Aerodrome (near Ocho Rios) but those flights are on a charter basis. Contact TimAir or International Airlink for prices and details.
