Golf in Montego Bay, Jamaica

Jamaica is known for its golf courses and the best ones are found in the Montego Bay area. Prices vary by resort but you'll always be required to hire a caddy (budget between $15 and $45 per round). Cart rentals are available at most courses; the cost runs about $20-$40.

The Tryall Club
North Coast Hwy. at Sandy Bay
This prestigious course located about 15 miles west of city is Jamaica's best known thanks to its long history and many tournaments. Built on a 19th century sugar plantation, the 18-hole course is an official PGA tour approved course. The most famous hole is the seventh where players tee off through the pillars of an historic aqueduct. Fees (2007): $85 for guests, $125 for nonguests

Half Moon

North Coast Hwy. at Half Moon
This Robert Trent Jones was renovated recently by Jones protégé Roger Rulewich and is also considered a top course. Home of the Red Stripe Pro Am, the course also is home to the David Leadbetter Golf Academy. Greens Fee (2007): $105 for guests, $150 for nonguests)

SuperClubs Golf Club
North Coast Hwy. three miles east of town at Ironshore
This course, managed by SuperClubs, is located three miles east of the airport. The 18-hole links-style course was designed by Robert Moote. The club includes a restaurant, pro shop and bar. Greens Fee (2007): $50

White Witch Course
Ritz-Carlton, Rose Hall
North Coast Hwy.
This championship 18-hole course is built on the grounds of beautiful Rose Hall, which some swear is haunted by Annie Palmer, better known as the White Witch.The course, built on the hillside, has 16 holes overlooking the sea and was designed by Robert von Hagge and Rick Baril. Greens Fee (2007): $179 for resort guests, $199 for nonguests, and $99 for a twilight round.

Cinnamon Hill Ocean Course
Rose Hall Resort & County Club
North Coast Hwy. 4 miles east of airport
Located on the grounds of Cinnamon Hill Great House (the winter home of the late Johnny Cash), this course was also designed by Robert von Hagge and Rick Baril. Greens fees (2007): $115 for guests, $150 for nonguests.

Grand Lido Braco Golf Club
Grand Lido Braco Resort, Trelawny
This 9-hole course is complimentary for guests and doesn't require caddies.
